I love my job…

Paul Groom Portrait

It’s such a pleasure to work on the many varied projects which have come my way over the last 19 years as a professional photographer.

I majored in Photography as part of my BA Hons Graphic Design degree in Derby which I graduated from in 1995. Since then I’ve been working as a photographer, graphic designer and videographer.

Bristol and the SW

Since moving to the South West around 20 years ago, I now proudly work with many clients including National Grid, Channel 4, Burges Salmon and various charities including Parkinson’s UK and Comic Relief to name a few.

Graphic Design & the importance of composition

I like to think that my graphic design knowledge is an important part of my photography and video work. I love working with clients, art directors, picture editors and designers and I like to think that I can understand their photographic needs in relation to a specific usage or layout very quickly. This comes in very useful when studio time is tight or the sun is setting and we need to get that last shot of the day in the bag.

Company

Whilst actually taking on my first commercial jobs in 2004, I’ve been working as a full time photographer since 2005: primarily as a Bristol photographer, but also many other areas, too, I’m now very much enjoying creating videos for my clients, too.

Exhibitions

I have had several photography exhibitions including featuring birds of prey: one at The Tobacco Factory, Bristol in 2015, which celebrated ten years of being a full time professional photographer, and more recently at a private gallery and Under The Edge Arts, Wotton which used a local swimming pool as inspiration, whilst carrying on my fascination with birds of prey.

Home life

I live with my wife and family in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire. It’s a great location as it’s only around 30 minutes from major cities like Bristol and Cheltenham. It allows me to work all around the South, Midlands and South Wales with ease. I often travel further afield and have been working in Scotland and Ireland recently.

I hope you enjoy looking around the site, if you’d like to find out more about what I’ve been up to recently then have a look at my blog page, and do get in touch if you would like to discuss any future photography.”
