Westonbirt Arboretum – Two Epic New Play Areas
Westonbirt Arboretum – Two Epic New Play Areas
Photographing Westonbirt Arboretum: A Stunning Day Out Near Bristol
I had a fantastic time photographing the two brand-new play areas at Westonbirt Arboretum this month. These exciting new zones, named Holford Hollow and Branch Out, are beautifully designed spaces made from wood, rope, and natural materials. They sit harmoniously within the Old Arboretum, surrounded by magnificent trees, creating an environment that encourages children to explore, discover, and engage with nature off the traditional paths. It’s a superbly creative design that blends very nicely into its surroundings, and I’m thrilled that my photos are now featured across the internet as part of the official press release announcing their opening.
Photography in Gloucestershire: Capturing the Beauty of Westonbirt Arboretum
Though this particular job focused on capturing the essence of the play areas, Westonbirt Arboretum is so much more than that. This world-renowned arboretum, located just an hour from Bristol, is home to one of the most significant plant collections globally, with over 15,000 specimens and 2,500 tree species from all over the world. The variety of trees, from towering redwoods to vibrant Japanese maples, offers a spectacular backdrop for photography, especially in the changing seasons, when the landscape comes alive with colour.

Westonbirt Arboretum’s rich woodland heritage is truly a photographer’s dream. The towering oaks, ancient trees, and the vibrant hues of autumn offer stunning visual opportunities for landscape and nature photography. The arboretum’s peaceful atmosphere, combined with its striking collection of trees, makes it a wonderful spot for photographers looking to capture the beauty of the Gloucestershire countryside. I’ve photographed this location so many times over the years, it really is very special.
